this morning, busted flat in baton rouge, she was waiting on the side of route 61 waiting for AAA to dispatch a tow truck so she could make it to the closest garage & get a non-deflated tire. being stranded here was the culmination of almost a year of traveling around the country. she’d set out with no distinct destination & after letting the chips fall where they may for months with much success, the setbacks had started to set in. a run-in in raleigh. a head cold in hot springs. a mess in odessa. it’d all led up to the here & now, her gamble in shambles, a single idea occupying her head for the first time since graduation: she needed to get back to jacksonville.
