this morning, true happiness came cloaked in folksy-sounding tropes straight out of some other century. unfortunately, personal pain came along with his pleasure. it wasn’t his pain though, so he sat content on the couch, utterly unaware of the reverberations of his declarations. he was getting too old to be concerned about such things anyhow. if he believed he was complimenting his filipino home attendant with adulation for her assumed math skills, nobody was going to set him straight. they were too afraid of his perceived power. after what had happened to the “lazy mexican girl” who had previously assisted him, they had good reason.
