this morning, because he was a rigid man who’d been manufactured within an inch of his life, the question he was just asked was regrettably unexpected. he paused. acted as if he was deep in thought as he quickly flipped through his mental database of prefab responses. “that’s a darn terrific question.” as always, on brand with the folksy response. when a flushed sensation started coming over him, he knew he could wait no longer. sadly, no amazing answer came floating down from heaven to save him so he had to improvise. began to answer then swiftly pivoted to a totally different topic. spoke for ten minutes with hollow words that buzzed & by the time he was done, he hadn’t answered the question. hadn’t said anything at all. once again, no one called him on it.
