this morning #2249.
this morning, when he showed up at the office, he made sure to show up with his shoes shined up all spiffy. shirt & pants dry cleaned. pressed to impress. if this’d been the sort of place where people wore ties, he would’ve worn one in a second. last week, after being second-guessed yet again, he’d gone to his closet to reassess the ol’ wardrobe. it’s like the saying goes—“clothes make the man.” he’d been ignoring this lately but there was a lot for him to work with in there. as he sifted through it all, he couldn’t even recall buying half of the stuff. must’ve bought them during the dark days. much of it was outdated but still looked good. he put together a half-dozen outfits, enough to make it through at least a week. thus began his middle-aged quest to be taken seriously.
