this morning #1835.

this morning, though she was trying her best not to stare, he didn’t really care. he’d long since adjusted to the attention. the ways that people saw him & his bold birthmark. if their long looks actually bothered him, he just wouldn’t go out in public. every so often, he’d be deep in his book & then feel the heat. look up & catch her staring from across the cafe. studying his face & then having to quickly look away. interrupted in the middle of trying to unlock the mystery from afar instead of just engaging with him. if she’d simply asked him why his face was multi-colored, he’d have told her. told a joke about it, even. the reason was far from nefarious. beyond his control. maybe in her world, it was more exciting not to know.
