this morning #881.
this morning, while the rest of the town’s fixated on thanking us for our service, i’m still perpetually nervous, less & less comfortable with the company i keep. if the townsfolk truly knew the men & women who’d come back with me, they might second guess their salutes. truth is, we’re not all shining symbols of patriotic bliss. we’ve got flaws too, just like they do. i haven’t slept since tuesday. every last one of us has at least one addiction that we’re ill-equipped to handle. i once cheated on my wife. no. wait. twice. DUI tales are usual monday fare at the hall. we’ve all questioned what’s next. most of us just don’t know. go ahead though. celebrate us with flags today. i’ll celebrate some other way.
