this morning #596.

this morning, surprisingly enough, a delivery of a dozen red roses to their doorstep by an indifferent amazon driver didn’t make things any rosier. in fact, their mind went straight to the first time anyone gave them flowers. two sunflowers wrapped in newspaper by an admirer & left on the porch with a tender note tucked between them. whenever they searched for memories of meaningful, loving gestures, this stood out. it was never about the gift. it was always about the intention. floral apologies were just plain tacky, a shallow sorry where words would’ve worked way better. they took them in anyhow, placed them in a vase by the bathroom & waited for them to die along with their relationship.
