this morning #506.

this morning, illuminated by the meager light of a half-cloudy fall sky, she tried to determine whether or not the mass across the street was some sort of corpse. it wouldn’t be the first time she’d woke up to find something untoward in her neighbor’s front yard. through the front window & through lakefront haze, it was hard to tell what it could be. maybe it was a body, human or not. perhaps it was some garbage left out to rot. if the owner of the home wasn’t a suspected meth dealer, she’d cross the street to get a closer look. instead, she watched from her window, dreaming up scenarios about what it was, waiting for the sun to come up & shine light on the truth.
