this morning, they simply couldn’t get the punchline “orange you glad i didn’t say ‘banana’” out of their head. ever since last night’s bar banter devolved into a rapid telling of knock knock jokes with a boy they’d developed a crush on, they just kept hearing the laugh he’d delivered after delivering each punchline. it was deep but joyful, like something out of the mouth of a content lumberjack or brewmaster. it wasn’t the first time they’d developed a crush on someone they assumed was unattainable but it would be the first time that it would develop into something more. at this early hour, that possibility hadn’t even crossed their mind. they were way too hung up on the punchline.
