this morning #324.

this morning, she reached out & ran a gentle hand back & forth along her lover’s spine, watching her body rise & fall with each breath as she lay asleep beside her. there was a satisfying calm in her home, with the only sound the ticking of the distant kitchen clock. her soft touch led to stirring & before long, she was staring into her eyes, watching them twitch awake. no words. just thoughts. thoughts of love. thoughts about this breathtaking body & mind that lay next to her. thoughts about how if they both hadn’t been at the vet’s office that day, pre-grieving the impending losses of their respective cats, they wouldn’t have even met. they wouldn’t have this moment right here.
