this morning #258.

this morning, it was blue pill followed by red pill followed by half-green, half-white capsule & a cold glass of water to wash it all down. with that, she was off to the races & out the door. the winter air felt cold but crisp & clean as she walked the seven blocks to the elementary school for another day of interacting with a classroom of kids who were just as burnt out as she was. it hadn’t always been like this. there used to be a happier time, a time before all the standardized testing washed away any sense of creativity in her lesson plans. now she was mostly just going through the motions, hoping for a blip. perhaps today some student would surprise her. she wasn’t about to surprise herself.
