this morning, even after all these years, after all these years that came after all the tragedy that’d happened, we still hadn’t properly reflected. hadn’t tried to reckon with the why. tried to heal our wounds through revenge. only ended up repeating what we’d done before. running in circles. even after we’d seen it with our own two eyes & the dust had settled, we still couldn’t believe it. i don’t blame us. that day was CRAZY. plus, all told, we’re not exactly an introspective nation. we never take the time to face our mistakes let alone learn from them. always down for doubling down on them. tripling down when the opportunity arises. believing that things might turn out right this time. opting to selectively deploy the phrase “never forget.” forever rolling the dice.
