this morning #2239.
this morning, through the haze of back porch cigarette smoke, she started to share what’d happened to her the previous evening. spoke of how, last night an hour before closing time, these two guys had come into the restaurant. at first glance, there was nothing out of the ordinary about them. just your basic middle-aged dad types. slightly loud but normal for those late hours. since there was only one other table taken in the restaurant, she said to sit wherever they wanted. they chose a booth in the back. didn’t wait. waved her over. two beers & a basket of fries. she hadn’t noticed at first but now she did. a couple slurred words. glassy eyes. the first signs that these two guys were going to be trouble. still, she never imagined that they’d have to place a call to the cops.
