this morning, the dead-eyed serious expression on his face made it clear that he was in charge of this particular situation. no questions asked. lips shut tight but rippling at the edges. his two young associates were totally focused. waiting on his direction. no choice but to listen. a little bit scared but ready to follow him wherever he was about to lead them. supposedly older & wiser. living a similar life for far longer than they’d been, that is. on the perpetual hustle. this was going to be one hell of a hustle. it’s “really a three-person job,” he’d said & here they were. ready to share in his score. with a dozen words, two hand gestures & a shift in his eyes, they turned & followed him into the tunnel. their mission began.
