this morning #2048.

this morning, the slate skies high above the west coast opened up all at once & soaked his hopes for the day straight through. no morning drive to the ocean. steaming cup of earl grey tea in its place. he stood by the back door & stared out through the glass. past the drowned patio & out into the valley at nothing in particular. tried to keep his mind clear for the moment. the first thought that pushed through the calm: he wondered if it’s viable that, if he looked long enough, looked longingly enough at what was before him, he might find god. some divine deity somewhere out in the distance who he could turn to when the sky was falling. all he could see today was thick clouds & a soggy fog obscuring any possible god.
