this morning #2042.

this morning, by the time that our cappuccinos arrived at the table, he was already well into telling me clearly-embellished tales from his recent european travels. the waitress set the two cups down between us. blank face. she mumbled something indecipherable & walked away. he picked up his cup, took a couple sips & kept going. didn’t miss a beat. parisian lunches. berlin evenings. he was a gallant man of mystery who stayed in cities just long enough to leave him longing to return. not one day more. “you should come with me next time. i could show you around. you’d love paris.” i knew that he was bluffing but still nodded along. “yeah…maybe. it sounds super cool.” pictured the two of us traveling. i was bluffing too.
