this morning #1436.
this morning, our guest speaker turned out to have a rather eccentric agenda. when we invited him to campus, it was because of his unique expertise in the field of lepidopterology. butterfly science in layman’s terms. imagine my surprise when, around five minutes into his lecture, he veered off into a rant about the threats posed by birds. called them all these insane names. tried to lay the blame on them for the demise of our butterfly friends. lectured us with an uneven intensity in his voice. someone in the back of the room let out a laugh. that set him off, sent him down a strange path laden with a surge of extremely creative bird slurs. i, for one, did not realize you could use “feather” in that way.
