this morning #1396.

this morning, we were both sitting cross-legged on the rug, a bucket of legos spread out all around us on the floor of her bedroom. i asked her what she wanted to build today. most of the time, she won’t even think it over. the answer’s obviously “castle.” today though, she surprised me with a confident “refugee camp” & a vibrant smile. i instantly knew the source of those words. last weekend, we’d hosted a dinner party with a few friends. after the meal & before we put her to bed, we were swirling glasses of wine. she sat in her chair with a book in her lap & a look on her face. the topic of our talk? palestine. i guess she was listening. now i have to figure out how to make a refugee camp out of legos.
