this morning, in an instant, the comfortable peace we’d gotten used to in our seaside gated community was torn up & tossed in the trash. all it took was a single break-in. it happened at some point around the holiday when the millers were back in chicago visiting their kids. when they returned, they found a gaping space where an 85-inch tv once was. the cops were called. the security guards checked the camera footage & saw nothing out of the ordinary. the millers hadn’t bothered installing a camera of their own. why bother? when we moved in here, part of what we were paying for was safety. now we all have to buy cameras. someone will likely get fired. that’s the least that’ll happen.
