this morning, sipping a mango smoothie & staring into space brought calm to his tiny world. these last few weeks had been quite the roller coaster ride even for him. a few of the few folks he spoke to got sick quick & died. panic pierced him. he removed himself from society & holed up at home. then, just yesterday he learned that today would be “global handwashing day.” he smiled for the first time in a while. after years of sitting on the sidelines as a made-up fringe holiday, this would be its year to shine. today, twenty-something 2020 florence nightingales at the global handwashing partnership would celebrate via zoom & say things like “we’ve finally arrived!” his laughter washed the pain away.
