this morning #441.
this morning, she stared at her newly-captured companion with wide-wonder eyes. its orange & black wings flapped randomly against the edges of the jar. this activity made her wonder if its movements were a sign of excitement, like a dog wagging its tail at its owner, or a sign of desperation, like a cat pawing at a bird outside the house. the latter seemed more likely. it was such a delicate creature with features that she’d learned told the animal kingdom that there was poison behind its beauty. predators beware. she inspected it for a little while longer & then brought it out to the backyard to set it free. even at her young age, she knew that you shouldn’t keep majesty under glass.
