this morning, he told her she was beautiful in such soft tones. the way he did hid the way he actually felt at the moment. this relationship was something he’d stumbled into, never expecting that she’d settle down with someone like him. he didn’t deserve her & was certain she was simply settling for his harmless quirks & stable personality. he was the loveable schlub in the rom-com. while “beautiful” was the word he said to her, in reality he thought of her as way more than that. if you were to ask his friends about his feelings, they’d say they were close to “obsessive.” he lived for her. he was nothing without her. deep down, he knew his devotion was ugly.
