this morning #2286.
this morning, over the course of an hour, i dragged every single thing she’d left behind outside. piled it up high in the driveway. doused the pile with a healthy layer of lighter fluid & placed a lit match down near the bottom until it caught. stepped back & wiped the sweat away from my face. watched the fire slowly spread. it hit the section with the dresses with a WOOSH & blue flames sprang forth from whatever cheap, toxic material they were made of. from there, the fire began to gather steam as a thick plume of black smoke streamed up into the sky. within maybe fifteen minutes, all her belongings were gone. five years of life swiftly reduced to a circle of hot ash on the blacktop. not gonna lie. it was the most satisfying thing that i’ve done in years. finally felt free & clear.
