this morning, his uniquely midwestern energy seemed to be the reason why he was standing there before me struggling to tell me what he really thinks of my brand new shirt. my brand new style. i’m not sure what the big deal is. i like the way it looks. i’m the one who asked for his opinion in the first place so it’s not like my feelings will be hurt if he questions my newfound fashion sense. we’re friends. it’s ok to be real with each other. that’s what friends do. i mean, i might be trying out a new look but i’ve never let my clothes define me. the guy at the store called it “the perfect blend of classic & modern.” i don’t know. i get that he’s a salesman but, in the moment, i guess i believed him. now my pal’s suppressed reaction makes me believe that i might’ve been taken for a ride.
