this morning, there was freedom in the air & she didn’t really care but she didn’t dare look a gift horse in the mouth. the way she looked at it, federal holidays were the one thing that the government actually got right. even if what the holiday celebrated didn’t concern you, you still got a day to do what you pleased. freedom to stroll down the beach. freedom to stay in bed all day. freedom to run some errands. freedom to go where the day takes you. it wasn’t like she was a racist. it was more like she felt it wasn’t her holiday to celebrate, so she didn’t. let the colored people enjoy themselves with their barbecues & their rap music & whatnot. she’d be rocking out to “free bird” in her basement.
