this morning, she was trying to decide how to react when they laughed & exclaimed that she “looked like she’d fallen off the ugly truck.” at first, she took it to mean that she was a reject who’d been tossed off a vehicle full of sad-looking people. it cut her deep. that was clearly what they meant but then she opted to ignore their callous comments. reframe the stupid saying before the pain & anger had a chance to creep in. she didn’t even belong on that dumb truck in the first place. it was all a big mistake. what they’d taken as her “falling off” was actually her making a great escape. much better. she breathed in deep & informed them that, with their cold, hardened hearts, they were the ones who belonged on that truck.
