this morning #2115.
this morning, the divide between the way she saw herself & the way the world saw her was quite wide. she’d endured a lifetime of snide remarks from family members who were unaware of or simply did not care about the effect of their own words. as an adult, multiple therapists worked with her to rebuild her self esteem. urged her to take control of the narrative. she’d let others shape it for too long. she was not ugly. not worthless. far from it. eventually, the hard work paid off but when her self-perception came out the other side, it emerged as overcompensation. she’d gone from being a shit to being the shit. advanced arrogance. way better than self-hate but also tough to take from a slightly-above-average woman.
