this morning, someone sounded the alarm. not sure who did so but next thing i knew we were all amassed out on the grass in front of the office. murmuring ensued. no one knew what this was. not a drill but no sign of smoke. two fire trucks sped into the lot & came to an abrupt stop. as their sirens died down, a team spilled out of each truck. gear rattling as they made their way inside. “it’s probably just a false alarm.” the new guy from IT kept repeating this. ok. we get it. theory recognized. he said it again & it hit me. dude doth protest too much. i bet he pulled the alarm to cause a diversion. asshole. up on the third floor, a window blew out & flames leapt forth. he spoke up once more. “i guess i was wrong. not a false alarm.”
