this morning #1929.

this morning, the scene across the street was awash with activity but she was over here keeping her distance. not wanting to get involved or bring attention to herself. sitting alone on a stoop. headphones on. head down in thought. trying to drown out the city around her while, just outside the main doors, her classmates awkwardly flirted with each other in the little time that they had before the school day started. the tired heartache of teen isolation. resigned to life on the sideline but still always searching for the right time to join the conversation. “hey girls. look who’s trying to talk to us. it’s goth girl.” the jagged laughs. over here across the street on the stoop, she’s safe from all that subtle shunning.
