this morning #1718.
this morning, all the “sick” members of my team were back in the office & with the time they’d missed yesterday, we now had some catching up to do to reach our monthly goals. i gave everyone a sec to settle in. called them all into the conference room for a quick pep talk. “how’re we doing today?” their response: mostly groans & two half-hearted “ok’s.” i tried to sweeten them up with a white lie & a straight face. “look. so far, you’re all doing great.” “great” is an overstatement. “average” is more appropriate. still, failure’s not an option. not for me, at least. “we have four days left but we can do this. promise to give it your all this week.” silence. “fine. i’ll make it worth your while.” they perked up at this. i had no clue what i’d even do.
