this morning, underneath the brightening skies, you & i were trying to hold on for just a little bit longer. as soon as the sun was up, our time together would be too. we’d always known that it’d eventually have to end, this whirlwind whatever it was. we even managed to extend your stay a few extra days. lived on borrowed time. got to have what i’d say was the best day we’ve ever spent together. thirty years from now, if i have no other memories of you, i’ll still remember the look on your face at the end of the day as we stood on the bridge watching the sun set over the city. it’s a pity that this’ll be it but that’s just the way it is. i gave you one more kiss. asked you to sing me one more song.
