this morning, after two weeks of me asking for a straight answer, they finally relented & deigned to lay out the rules of the game for me, gave me a half-hearted apology for taking so long. for all this time, i’ve been out here flying blind, trying to avoid stepping on the land mines they’d been laying for me all along the way. i sat back. emptied my head & made space to fill with their rationale, prepared for what they had to say. maybe there’d be room for us to negotiate. they explained: from this day forth, coming by uninvited like this was unacceptable. fine. i can live with that. they need more “me time.” not happy but okay. this wasn’t working for them. i threw up my hands. the negotiations began.
