this morning #1047.

this morning, as i headed home from the laundromat, i crossed paths with the second opossum i’ve seen this week. the last encounter was at night. all beady eyes reflecting back at me through the darkness. perfectly logical stuff. this particular critter, fully exposed by the light of day, was different. it bared its teeth. screamed but nothing came out of its mouth. it was possibly a yawn. hardly menacing. not nocturnal. not today, at least. for some reason, it was frozen stiff on the sidewalk, unsure of how to deal with my presence, what its next move should be. i swiftly sidled past, put some space between us. if that sketchy rodent is out during the daytime, it’s probably EXTRA rabid.
